Three Key Areas in Socioemotional Development in Early Childhood

Three Key Areas:

First, the emotional and personality development of early childhood. Under this heading included the influences of emotional development for example, the value of emotional coaching versus emotional-dismissal. Moral development was also addressed which involves our thoughts, feelings and actions regarding rules and regulations about what people should do in their interactions with others. The development of gender identity and gender theories was also discussed.

The second area includes families and how families can influence young children's development. The areas discussed were what type of parenting techniques are used, the role of siblings and birthorder, maltreatment, working parents and the impact of divorce and gay/lesbian parents.

Finally, how children's development is strongly influenced by what goes on in other social contexts, like peer groups and when children are playing or watching television.
